What is Integrated Attachment Theory?

Integrated Attachment Theory was created by Thais Gibson, a personal development expert, author and PhD student of Transpersonal Counselling. After completing her Master’s degree and 13+ different certifications in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Hypnosis, Somatic Experiencing, NLP and more, she developed the Integrated Attachment Theory to combine principles that helped her clients most, and the IAT Certification Program to teach others these skills.

With a focus on attachment-based trauma, Gibson has created and tested cutting-edge approaches to healing all areas of your life that are truly long-lasting and results-oriented. This is because she recognizes that for real change to exist, it must take place at the subconscious level.

This approach combines the best strategies of these methods to create a cutting-edge, holistic, and results-oriented approach to healing your inner challenges, without ever needing to re-experience painful events from the past!

Does Gibson Integrated Attachment Theory incorporate other methods?

IAT incorporates Attachment Theory, CBT, Hypnotherapy and aspects of Somatic Processing.

What is Attachment Theory?

Attachment Theory studies children's patterns of soothing with caregivers in response to stress. Children who learn that their caregivers are consistently available to comfort them develop a 'secure' attachment, and those who don't develop an 'insecure' attachment. The insecurely attached children end up seeking comfort in strategies which exist along a spectrum: from self-isolating and withdrawing to seeking external comfort and clinging to people.

Integrated Attachment Theory adds on to traditional Attachment Theory by addressing the (many) ways these strategies actually evolve into adulthood, spill into other areas of our lives and become our Core Wounds, Personality Needs, Emotional Patterns, Boundaries, Communication Styles, and Coping Mechanisms. All the areas covered in your Personalized Program when you work with me.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a psychological treatment that focuses on helping clients shift unhelpful thinking or behavior patterns to more adaptive ones. Integrated Attachment Theory uses similar strategies to widen individual's thinking and behavioural perceptions and reduce their emotional reactivity, without making them fight their thoughts.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses relaxation, extreme concentration, and intense attention to help clients change their sub-conscious view of real-life situations, feelings, and events and see them in a 'different light'. This form of therapy is known to create deep, long-lasting, transformational changes with clients.

Integrated Attachment Theory uses the same principles to recondition the subconscious mind, but with the client in charge of the process, rather than the practitioner.

What is Somatic Processing?

Somatic Processing is a body-mind therapy that helps clients slowly learn to reconnect with their physical sensations and safely experience emotions in their body. This ability often gets turned off as a result of trauma and as a strategy to avoid pain that they cannot tolerate at the time.

Integrated Attachment Theory uses somatic processing as a part of the reconditioning process and as a tool for emotional regulation, to help clients consistently build up this skill again.

Will Integrated Attachment Theory work for me?

Many people have tried therapy and did not experience the results they hoped for. You may understand an obstacle, but can't bring yourself to actually do what you feel you should do. Therapeutic methods can fall short because they end just before the tipping point of new behavioural patterns: the subconscious mind.

This technique is special because
1) it reconditions your subconscious mind over time to be in alignment with your conscious goals, and
2) it does not require you to re-hash painful experiences over and over.

What I do is create a safe space for you to explore your feelings, share key information with you, guide you through exercises that will build your understanding of yourself and your patterns, and work with you to brainstorm solutions and strategies to implement our lessons in your life.

What you have to do is show up with an open mind each week, come exactly as you are, and commit to reviewing the homework between sessions to integrate what you've learned into your life- and to truly see results!

Together, we can discover personal breakthroughs and create transformational results in your life.
